Media Evaluation

This is my evaluation for the guardian article that I created in Adobe InDesign. I had to upload my work on to my blogger account. The article that I wrote is about online piracy and how it affects the music industry.

Research Skills

In terms of research I had no trouble finding all the information I needed. I managed to find sources that backed up all of the statistics that I had. My strengths in research are my ability to find information quickly and efficiently. I used Google and searched quotes of articles I have read in the past to find the information I needed. I also searched for celebrity opinions that justify my opinions in the article. My weaknesses are I find similar pieces of information and I need to try and find more interesting facts to my article. This means putting more time and effort into researching before I complete the task.

Journalistic and writing skills

Writing in the style of a journalist was not challenging for me because I am good at English and I find it easy. My strengths was putting myself in the shoes of a journalist and adding my own opinions. I have not written a piece of journalism in a long time so I had to plan out my ideas for the text thoroughly before I wrote it. Overall I feel like I didn’t have a weakness writing the text because I got through it quite quickly.

The InDesign skills learnt

Using Adobe InDesign I have learnt is how to create a magazine and add text into it. I did have a bit of trouble resizing the photos at first because my pictures kept on cropping but once I got used to it and found the appropriate ways of resizing the images I was alright. I used the tools in the toolbox to add text to the article and to add margins so that the text fit the appropriate guidelines. My weaknesses with this task were my ability to get used to the software quickly and promptly before I used the software for later coursework’s.

Web publishing skills

I had to create a blogger account to post my work onto which I also found quite simple. I already had a Google account so this wasn’t complicated for me. I had to upload my work onto my account (hadleyogarroleytonas.blogger.co.uk) by adding the image of my article and publishing it.

Audience feedback

In terms of the article my fellow students said that my original article was too confusing and I needed to fix the layout so using their feedback I redesigned the text into two columns and the images onto one side so that it could be read clearly.

Set four targets for improvement

One target for improvement is to spend more time researching information for my article so that I have a variety of information to make the article more interesting. Another weakness was my ability to use InDesign fluently so I will in future play around with the software before using it so that I know fully how to use it which will make it easier for when I have to use the software for work.
